Healthy skin is a journey and it needs consistent efforts. Skincare is essential to build a good base for skin that is healthy and glows from within. Though we tend to commit a lot of mistakes that might cause problems to skin health. Following a dedicated skincare routine on a daily basis does help in countering the various skin issues that we face. 

In this article I have listed some of the common skincare mistakes which could harm our skin in the long run. Here are 7 skincare mistakes to avoid for healthy skin.

1. Using The Wrong Type Of Products For Your Skin Type

A very common skincare mistake is to use the wrong type of products for your skin. You might be using a product meant for dry skin on normal or sensitive skin and keep on wondering why your skin reacts so much! Finding the right type of product for your skin type might take some time but will be worth it in the end. 

Whether your skin type is oily, dry, combination or normal, try on different products for your skin type and see for a few days what effects it has on your skin and then choose the product that suits you the best.

2. Using Products Meant For Body On Your Face

This is a no brainer! Don’t use a body lotion as a face moisturizer. Products that are meant for your body will not suit your facial skin as the skin on your body is thicker and less sensitive than the skin on your face. The skin might react badly or get covered with rashes or make it more oily.

Always read the instructions provided on the product label on how to use that product and then use it accordingly. Unless a product is labeled as multipurpose, which can be used on both face and body, do not use a product meant for your body on your face.

3. Being Harsh On Your Skin

This is such a widespread skincare mistake that I see all the time. You should never be harsh with your skin whether drying your skin with a towel or applying products or scrubbing. Always be very gentle on your skin. Daily pulling and tugging your skin makes it more prone to fine lines and wrinkles in the long run, so treat your skin with some TLC.

Pat dry your skin with a soft towel and apply products in a circular motion with very light pressure or just pat in the product. While scrubbing your skin be very gentle and use circular motions for scrubbing away dead skin cells.

4. Not Treating Your Pimples and Rashes

Whenever you have skin problems like pimples or rashes or any kind of allergies, always treat them right away. Apply something to reduce and heal the skin because they don’t always go away on their own. We might wait for it to heal on it’s own but it takes way too much time for that. 

To treat these problems apply sandalwood paste or neem paste or any other kind of treatment that suits you and will heal your skin. Not treating them might lead to scars, so don’t leave them unattended.

5. Not Applying Sunscreen Daily

Sunscreen is a must for 365 days a year! Never skip it even when you are indoors. You should always apply sunscreen during the daytime no matter what might be the weather. This is going to be a major stepping stone for your anti-aging measures because sun rays damages skin and causes it to age faster than normal. So, always make it a point to include sunscreen in your morning skincare routine.

Find a sunscreen that suits your skin and apply it during the day time everyday which helps in preventing tanning, sun spots and wrinkles caused from sun damage.

6. Relying Only On Store Bought Products

Using only store bought products and skipping on natural skincare ingredients entirely is not a good idea for long-term health of the skin. Even if you are using store bought products, try to include homemade skincare masks once in a while.

7. Not Using A Clean Towel For Your Face

I have mentioned this before in one of my previous blog “9 Skincare Tips When You Are At Home”. Always use a clean towel to pat dry your face. Dirty towels will add back the dirt and bacteria to the skin. I use a separate towel for my face and change it frequently so as reduce any contamination as I have very pimple prone and sensitive skin. Anything that’s touching your skin should be clean.
