9 Skincare Tips When You Are At Home

You are at home most of the times now. Maybe you are going out for a bit sometimes, but not much. You might be thinking to skip a proper skincare just because you are at home but that might land your skin into trouble. You should always maintain a good skincare routine in a consistent manner so as to keep your skin healthy. Skincare needs to be done every day and should not be skipped because small daily skincare habits will build up the health of your skin overtime and will benefit you in the long run.

My skin type is oily, sensitive and acne prone which is quite problematic to handle! But I follow a certain skincare routine and some tips to keep it healthy. Here are 9 easy skincare tips that I have been following for years and are really helpful when you want some self-care at home that are quick and easy to follow.

 1. Clean Your Face Twice a Day

Cleaning is obviously the first step in setting the foundation for a good skincare routine. Cleaning your face twice daily in the morning and at night with a good facewash for your skin type is a very important skincare tip that I learned overtime. You can choose one that has less chemicals in it or can also use a natural face mask for cleaning your skin on a daily basis.

In the morning I am currently using Khadi Herbals Neem and Tea Tree Face Wash because I have oily, sensitive and pimple prone skin and at night I use a homemade face mask made of Gram Flour and Milk powder mixed in water.

2. Moisturize Your Face

After cleaning your skin, moisturize with  a light weight cream, gel or lotion suited for your skin type. Moisturizer is very important for your skin and you should always keep your skin moisturized throughout the day. A very useful skincare tip is to reapply your moisturizer whenever it feels dry because you don’t want to end up having dry cracks on your skin. Effectively moisturized skin even helps in preventing wrinkles in the long run.

I have tried a lot of moisturizers but very few suits me because my skin is sensitive and I can’t experiment much with it. I use Aloe Vera Gel and Nivea Soft Cream as moisturizers for my skin.

3. Never Skip Sunscreen

Did you know that you should apply sunscreen all year round and not only during the summers? When I found out about this skincare tip, I then searched for a good sunscreen that will suit me all year round. It is very important to apply the sunscreen during the day time even when you are at home because the harmful sun rays do reach inside of our homes too. Sunscreen should be applied every day, in all the seasons that is during summers, rainy season and also during winters.

You should never skip your sunscreen. You should apply sunscreen after applying moisturizer. The one that I use is Mama Earth Ultra Light Indian Sunscreen.

4. Use Soap Free Body Wash

We often neglect taking care of our body but you should also pamper your body with some self-care! One of the best skincare tip that I got is using a soap free body wash for daily use. Body washes are much milder and less harsh on your skin compared to a chemical laden soap. Try using a soap free, less chemical containing body wash or try using any kind of organic soap brands that are mild on the skin.

I love the biotique body wash range, they have some really amazing soap free body washes. They also smell so good! Currently I am using Biotique Bio Honey Cream Body Wash.

5. Moisturize your Body

Moisturizing the skin on your body is equally important as it’s for the face. Always moisturize your arms and legs and the dry parts on your body. If this seems too time consuming for you then just moisturize your hands and feet daily. Hands and feet tend to get more wrinkles than the rest of our body so always moisturize them. Also don’t forget to use a body lotion with sunscreen in it during the day time. Skin on our body gets affected by the harmful rays too.

I use Nivea Cocoa Butter Body lotion and Vaseline Body lotion with SPF 30.

6. Scrub Twice A Week

Scrubbing is another skincare tip that you should definitely not compromise on. Scrubbing your face and body is essential for removing the dead skin cells so that when you moisturize or put some healthy product on it, the absorption will be much better. Scrub twice a week with a good scrub or you can also use a homemade scrub for your face and body.

I use Licorice Powder mixed with my homemade face cleanser that I talked about in point number 1 for scrubbing my face. Also for body I use a mixture of Brown sugar and coconut oil for scrubbing or sometimes I use the licorice powder mixed with Gram Flour and water too as my body scrub.

7. Homemade Face & Body Masks

I have been using homemade face masks for years. I don’t go for any salon skin treatments at all. I am rather scared that my skin would react badly if I go for any salon skin treatment. That’s why I use homemade face and body masks a lot. It’s natural and healthy in the long run. You just have to find out the ingredients that suit your skin.

I use Fuller’s Earth (Multani Mitti) mixed with some honey and water twice a week. I also use sandalwood paste, egg whites, cucumber, aloe vera gel and fruit pulps of papaya, watermelon, etc.

8. Change Your Pillow Cover Frequently

This is a major factor in reducing pimples. Pillow covers accumulate so much dirt and oil because you sleep on it for hours. The oil from your hair and skin ends up on your pillow throughout the night, this causes rashes and pimples to your skin. My pimples reduced significantly when I started following this skincare tip years ago.

Always remember to change up the pillow covers frequently.

9. Keep A Separate Face Towel

Keeping a separate face towel is quite necessary because of the benefits that it will have in the long run. It’s better not to use the towel we use for drying the body and keep a separate towel for face and also keep on changing this towel too just like you change the pillow covers.

The more clean surfaces you provide for your skin the better it is to save it from bacteria and pimples.

There you go! Follow these tips for a better skincare routine when you are at home and keep your skin healthy and clear looking. Which one did you like the most? Let me know in the comment section below!
